Using this site

Short, and in plain language. This covers the website. The actual agreement for a garden is the written proposal you and I sign for your specific project, and where the two ever disagree, the proposal wins.

What this site is

A description of the work I do and a way to start a conversation about it. Nothing here is an offer you can accept by clicking, and filling in the contact form does not book anything or commit either of us to anything. It starts a conversation.

Prices and ranges shown on this site are honest starting points for planning, not quotes. A real number comes out of the $100 site consultation, when I have walked your actual space, seen how the light moves and where the water drains, and put together a plan. That $100 comes off the project if we build together. Until you have a written proposal from me, you do not have a price.

About gardens, honestly

The growing advice on this site, in Field Notes, and in the recipes is what has worked for me on Upstate clay over about a decade. It is not a guarantee. Weather, soil, pests, deer, and the fact that a garden is a living thing all get a vote, and in 2024 a hurricane took my greenhouse and a season of crops to make that point. Follow the advice at your own judgement.

What I do guarantee is covered in the proposal for your project, in writing, for that project. Not here.

The photographs and the writing

The photographs, the garden designs, the writing, and the That Garden Guy and Horseshoe Farm names and marks are mine, and the same is true of Digital Dirt. You are welcome to share a link to any page here, and to quote a paragraph with credit and a link back. Please ask before using a photograph commercially or reproducing a design. The answer is often yes and it takes one email.

The legal bit

This site is provided as it is. I keep it accurate and online, and I cannot promise it is never wrong and never down. To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for losses arising from using the site or from acting on general advice published here. That limit does not touch anything I owe you under a signed proposal, and it is not an attempt to dodge responsibility for work I actually did on your property.

Do not use this site to break the law, to scrape it into a mailing list, or to try to reach parts of it that are not open to you. The staff and client dashboards are private and are not part of the public site.

South Carolina law governs all of this, and the courts of Greenville County are where any dispute would be heard. If some part of this page turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
